As we all know, post tropical cyclone Sandy (aka Frankenstorm) closed in on the shores of the US yesterday

According to the BBC,

The storm has had a huge impact on many cities across the eastern seaboard, especially New York where Wall Street is to remain closed for the second day running for the first time since 1888 - wow

Not entirely sure - it would be unfair if most of the north eastern coast couldn't vote though. Definitely wouldn't help Obama!

There was talk of it on the early morning breakfast news, truly awful and mother nature at its worst

A short video of someone jet skiing through the streets of Manasquan, New Jersey. Nice to see that some people make the best of a bad situation

I wouldn't think anyone is going to suffer if the Election is put on hold.

I feel for the people who have lost loved ones and for those who are having to cope with these catastrophic conditions.

My husband is American so we have friends and family over there. Thankfully most are in Sunny California, but we do know people effected by this, and it's a real worry. When the power went down in NY we lost contact with a dear friend, so we are very concerned at the moment.

I have a few friends across the pond on the east coast. Still waiting to hear from them

Us too, and the pictures and news coming from the east coast is not good. My husband is over there now, so we shall see, sooner rather than later I hope.

Surprisingly the Stock Exchange on Wall St is due to open again in the next hour

I have a very dear friend on the East Coast who posted on their Facebook that they survived Frankenstorm so I am hugely relieved; I was worrying myself silly about her and her son.

She had taken videos of the winds and rain they got over there - terrifying but oddly awe-inspiring at the same time.

Know a lad who is a firefighter in New Jersey, heard from him at the end of his shift (after the storm) to say he was on his way home then nothing till now. He is safe but has no phone, cell phone or electric. A friend of his drove round to check he was ok and he sent the message out.

Well I suppose the financial heart of America couldn't be put on hold indefinitely, the mobile footage of the trees snapping like matchsticks was truly frightening, imagine if we didn't have today's technology where we can predict these events well in advance and issue warnings?....the death toll and damage would be significantly higher.
