Hi Boo and welcome to the forum. If you live outside the UK, 127mg/dl translates as 7.05 mmol/l (divide by 18) which is just enough for diagnosis. However if you are in the UK which I think you probably are, this level is more likely to be 12.7. Try phoning to get your husband's correct BG measurement confirmed and come back to us with the correct figure. Then we can help you better.

In the meantime, you can already start looking after him. Here is some basic information written by the Forum Monitors for new members which gives important information about diet, testing, etc. which you will need to know. There is also a section on possible questions you could ask your clinic which you might find useful before his appointment. You can make your own list from that and take it with you. Look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hi
the 127 could possibly be a blood pressure figuire .As daisy said get in touch with your GP as it's all a lot to take in at the point of diagnosis .Good luck and be assured everyone on this forum are here to help.

Hi all, thank you so much for your replies. Ive been looking up a few items and it seems that the tests were HbA1c (think I got that right) and the results were given as mmols (again not too good on jargon yet)
He is having his first app. at the diabetic clinic next week so we should get more info.

Any advice on what to expect at clinic??

I think this forum and website will prove a great help to us taking our first steps into the world of diabetes.

Thanks
Aline

Since the 1st April 2011 the numbers are now in mmol/mol. (Source RCN)(DUK say 1st June ?)

So a figure of 127 mmol/mol equates to an HbA1c of 13.5 to 14%. (From memory so not 100% accurate)

Just checked it is 13.8%
