I have type 2 diabetes.
This evening I decided to spend some time on your site, perhaps some of your contributors have saved my life. RE: Carb intake and more frequent testing.
But, to the "begining".
I was diagnosed with type 2 about 3 years ago.
When I went into see the "practice" nurse the first time, the opening statement was, "I was part of a team" and thrust a pile of leaflets in my hand.
Now, being in the "experienced" half of life, that statement and action meant to me, the nurse was abrogating all responsibilities. I think the surgery has lived up/down to my expectations.
I am lucky if I see the nurse once/twice a year, the advice is vague, when I request the blood test results I can only have them in "written" form, they are illegible.
But, what I find disgraceful is the hygiene or lack of it, I get pins or multi-pin wheels run up and down the soles of my feet to check for reactions. When queeried, a "what if" I had HIV/AIDS [I dont]the nurse changed the pin, AFTER, my test! I could go on but, whats the point?
I was visiting a friend at a hospital nearby and watched one staffer dispensing tea/coffee, the cups were all stacked one on top of the other, all cups had available handles, the staffer never picked one cup up by the handle but used fingers inside the cup rims. If this Swine Flu turns out to be like Spanish Flu c1919 there will be no singing in The Valleys!
