Hello,

Today I went to a wine producer in France with people from our campsite for a visit and I've veen doing this for the fourth time now on a weekly base to translate and I can't get my blood sugar under control during those tours.
I was on 63 after meal so I ate a couple of dextro tablets to get back up and then the tour began.
I've been busy translating and showing things for about 2 hours and when I checked my BS I was on 268!
Can this be due to stress or something? I do find these tours quite stressful since I'm trying my best to translate and get people to understand what they say but 268 is a lot!
After being on 268 I took 2 units of rapid insulin and that will get me back down to 80 in no time... I'm really sensitive to insulin on that moment (normally 1 unit gets me down about 40-50)

Does anyone had experience with these kind of moments that can help me out?

Thanks

Stress is an excellent way to increase our BG whether we want it or not.

There are many things that affect our BG - food is the obvious one, also stress, exercise, drugs, illness, for us women our monthly cycle, end of honeymoon period, even our bodies fighting a bug before we realise it.

Now I am on a pump, I would increase my basal for the period of the stress ... bearing in mind it takes about an hour for the basal to take affect.

If you are injecting, this is a bit harder but you could trial giving yourself a little extra bolus before the sessions. I used to do this when climbing which is something which always raised my BG.

Don't forget to do lots of testing afterward - the increase in BG has come about by your liver doing a glyocogen (someone will correct me if I am wrong) dump which may reduce your reserves and lead to a hypo later.
