Hyperinsulinaemia..?

Hi there - I hope you can help!

After literally years of going to the GP complaining about constant tiredness, becoming lightheaded when standing up, having my speech become slurred & feeling dizzy which is resolved by eating and many other symptoms, and after being tested for thyroid issues & blood pressure problems, my GP suggested this week that I may have hyperinsulinaemia.

All of my symptoms were significantly worse when I was pregnant, but I was dismissed and told to rest more. I'm pleased that this GP is taking me seriously but if I'm honest I don't know what hyperinsulinaemia is or what it means for the future. Would this diagnosis mean that I am prediabetic?

The GP has given me a list of food that I am to cut out, I'm struggling with urges/cravings and a general foggy feeling. Is it sensible to attempt cold turkey diet change, or would I be better staggering it?

Thanks in advance, I'm quite bamboozled with this.

Before speculating further or jumping to conclusions and starting to make radical changes to lifestyle and diets, then I am puzzled why the GP does not first get some proper testing done to make sure the diagnosis is correct. You have a couple of tests around this syndrome, especially the standard insulin test for serum insulin levels. This blood test measures the level of insulin in the blood, and is too high if a person has hyperinsulemia.

One of my blood tests was flagged as abnormal (I can't remember which) and so I'm having fasting bloods taken this week. I'm more than happy to try a change to diet in the first instance because I think my diet currently is carb-heavy and reviewing that won't do any harm whether this diagnosis is confirmed or not.
