Hi guys,
I have a 4 year old nephew called Nathan living with me who has type 1 Diabetes, and requires Insulin injections 3 times a day.
I was wondering if I could get peoples opinions about something that happened early hours of this morning.
At around 3AM Nathan's mother woke me and was really upset, when I went into Nathan's room, he was sitting up in his bed making a strange noise. When I spoke to him there was no response, he was wide awake, but just starring into space. He wasn't moving at all, nor could I get any response from him, I asked him to squeeze my hand, but nothing. It was like he was asleep with his eyes open, but making a strange noise and not responding to anything.
At that stage we were all worried, and to be honest we all aren't that well educated in his condition, his mother handles all the injections, but due to her education (she went to a special school when she was younger), she is a little slow in learning and taking things in, so the whole family helps her out as much as possible.
Anyway, we phoned 999 and had a paramedic come, but by the time he arrived Nathan was back to normal. It was like he woke up. We hadn't gave him anything, his levels were checked, but there was nothing wrong, even the paramedic checked him over and was a little surprised and just suggested to give him something to eat as is levels were a little low. He said that Nathan may have had a fit, but everything checked out fine, so he didn't need to go to the hospital.
Just wondered if anyone has experienced anything like this and if it was a hypo?
Sorry for the long post, just wanted to be as detailed as possible.
Thanks
