Hypo reading before meal - confused

I tested my glucose levels before lunch today and got a reading of 3.2. I was so confused as to whether to treat the hypo first with lucozade tablets, have a snack then lunch later or to take the glucose tablets, give it 10 minutes, check reading again and if over 4 to inject the 2 units of Novarapid and lunch as usual?

In the end I treated the hypo by taking 3 lucozade tablets then had a toasted tea cake which brought my level back upto 6.6 and had lunch 2 hours later.

Could I have just gone for the second option of 3 lucozade tablets, test, Novarapid then lunch?????

Personally I would have done like-wise and treated the hypo first and waited at least 20-30 minutes and tested again, if at this point my bg was above 5 then I would have lunch as normal with the insulin.

I'd have treated the hypo then had lunch but knocked 15g off the carb content of the lunch before working out the dose.

It takes 15g of fast acting and 15g of slow acting carbs to treat a hypo.

So if you eat more than this just don't count the first 15g of the meal or snack :D
