I've just had a hypo and went to the fridge for a small can of cola. Unfortunately there was none, so I treated my hypo with some haribo sweets. What solutions do you have for hypos on here?
I was using Jelly Babies up until recently but changed to GlucoTabs, for bad hypo's I always kept a couple of cans of Coke in the kitchen cupboard but recently bought some GlucoJuice on-line to keep in my coat pockets and in the car, got 12 bottles for £14
my go to hypo treatment is apple & blackcurrant juice boxes. I keep them everywhere and it's the only juice box I can handle (well not totally, but it helps). I also keep soft lollies of some sort at home and in my bag as well. But I find juice works a lot quicker for me and I don't have to worry about choking (my throat doesn't move well and I can choke on stuff easily). If you can't find anything at home you can use dissolved sugar in water, or honey.
I always keep Lucozade in the house for a quick BS lifter. I also have dextrose tablets which I get online for a good price. A box of the packs lasts ages but because I have all those packs I can make sure I put a pack in each bag I use, etc
Lucozade is the quickest, but I'll eat sweets if I have them and don't fancy the dextrose tablets.
Hypos suck! I have found that a cheap way of stocking up on hypo treatment is Aldi's pure orange juice cartons. They come in packs of 3 and are ridiculously cheap!
I always carry glucose tablets, or have them nearby. However I've learnt the hard way that I have to open up a new packet and place two or three tablets in miniature ziplock type bags. Once I was having a bad hypo, picked up a new packet of dextrose but lost hand coordination and couldnt actually open the packet . On another occasion had a hypo while out walking. Went to retrieve glucose tablets but the rain had got to them and they had turned into a solid mass of glucose that I had to break apart
