A T2 on metformin is very unlikely to get a hypo. However, I believe that you should still test to ensure that you don't eat meals that give you a hyper. Tight control of your blood glucose levels will have huge health benefits.

You're very unlikely to hypo while just on metformin, as far as the medical profession look at BG testing, you only need to test your blood to stop you getting hypos, they don't worry about you going high as you take medicine to help against that and if your hb1ac comes back a bit high just up the tablets..............

But if you want to properly control your diabetes, you need to know what foods affect you, so testing before and after a meal will help you work out which foods to avoid or reduce and which you can pig out on!

Yes as others have said you are very unlikely to Hypo on metforin alone never the less unlikely does not mean impossible I have on occasion had hypos when I was on metformin not often but at least two or three times .

So self testing is something I do regularly for the reasons mentioned already but also to guard against that once in a blue moon eventuality of a hypo.

My dad has had just 2 hypos while on Metformin. That was when he had not eaten in a while though but if like the others have said keep an eye on what you can and can't eat with your meter and don't go too long without anything to eat.
