Hi,

I just got to work, and I have forgotten my insulin!!! I’m supposed to go straight out after work tonight too. I was feeling all pleased with myself this morning for getting through the night without a hypo.

The thing is, with the traffic in Slough, there’s no way I’ll be able to get home before 10 to pick it up, and my blood sugars are rising for some unbeknown reason (I haven’t had breakfast yet).

What should I do??
 
Can someone bring it to you from home?

Otherwise is there a nearby pharmacy? I live in Scotland and up here you can get an emergency prescription from a pharmacy.

I once went away for the weekend and forgot to take my Basal insulin with me and didn't realise until it was too late and the chemist was closed.
 
It's not what you want to hear,but,please go and get your insulin,as you know,it's very,very important.
 
Seriously you have to go home and get it. You are going to be one sick puppy by the time 10pm comes. You will start to feel unwell and it will spoil your night as well.
I've done it myself before but here's nothing else for it.

I think she meant 10am. As in even leaving now it'll be over an hour until she gets the insulin.

We've all been there though! I managed to get by on little to no carbs for the day as I was in the honeymoon period. If BG is rising though you need to go and get your insulin I'm afraid

I'm so hungry, I might go and have a slice of bacon before I set off for the bus. I'm hovering at about 7mmol so not bad ATM.

7mmol is ok but if you know it is going up then you will need your insulin.
 
I would definitely rather annoy my work for having to leave for an hour or so than become ill .

Hopefully you can get your insulin soon so you don't go to high

When I did this, I went to the nearest GP surgery at lunch, registered as a temporary patient, got an insulin pen and needle prescription and went straight round to the pharmacy to pick it up. They were ok to do it and it took a lot less time than the drive home and back.
 
Ring for a mini cab and get yrself home......with no basal being active, and no bolus, it wont take long for bg to go way up. Forget the bus

Agreed. Although this may seem an extreme remedy.. you can't (cannot, can't, shouldn't, please don't) be too careful.

I have an action plan in place so that if such an occurrence were to... occur, my work colleagues understand that insulin comes first. Your place of work should understand fully and if they don't.. well you know the drill.
 
I've done this myself and the answer is "Sod work, think of yourself". As a medical condition, and a one off, I'd be very surprised to find anything discriminatory done!
 
Your not an idiot Emmotha and I'm sure we have all done this at some point, you could try keeping an insulin pen at work (provided it's in a safe secure place) and one at home, that way you'll not come unstuck again, although you would have to make sure you record the date when you first take the insulin out of the fridge as insulin only lasts approx 28 days before it begins to spoil.

My understanding was it's just the bolus she's missing, not the basal. Could be wrong though!

Someone gave me a lift and I picked up with some spares. The marketing department have a fridge and said I could keep it in there phew
 
Hi. Great that you were able to get the insulin. It's always necessary to kill the carbs for a while if you are without your Bolus. BTW why do you need a fridge? Insulin cartridges last around 4 weeks at room temp or perhaps you are using vials?
 
Although I work in an air conditioned office, I would always try and use a fridge if leaving insulin at work. They tend to turn the ac off at the weekend and it has been known to hit 30 degrees in the office, so any insulin would spoil!
 
Well it's not open yet, so I thought id keep it in there until I need it
 
On a different note I just got told off for saying something apparently offence in the office?
I said I can't do the late cover tomorrow because I'm running low on needles and need to pick some up. I didn't think, but not sure why that's offensive
