Hi I'm new to this forum
I've just felt too confused over the past year and i just don't know what to do anymore. A year ago i noticed that i was getting thirsty very quickly and overtime i would drink it would help for about a minute until i needed to go to the toilet again. i would constantly feel tiered and i could never concentrate in class. At night i would be waking up several times a night and going to the toilet which frustrated me a lot so i went to my gp to sort it. I told the gp my symptoms and being 16 he tested my sugars and found it to be 7.8 and told me that it was high for a non diabetic and sent me home. A few months later everything sort of subsided but i was still feeling thirsty and lethargic but i got used to it. Now the symptoms are back and now i just don't know what to think anymore. How long can you have the symptoms of type 1 without being diagnosed and it it all in my head???
i would really appreciate any responses

@Rasisi123 . Welcome to the forum. I would strongly suggest you make an appointment with a GP, maybe a different one to last time. Express your concerns and all your symptoms and how long you have been feeling this way.
Don't let them tell you your BS is high and then send you home. If your BS is high you need to know why.

dear you really need to see your GP Rasisi .. If you are diabetic, which you could be then you need help and support from your doctor... depending on if you are type 1 or type 2 diabetic you need to change lifestyle in type 1 you would need insulin injections for life , if type 2 you need to radically change what you eat .. in both cases I think you should stay in this forum... but first of all you need to go to your doctor or the hospital and have your blood measured and make them give you the true diagnosis.. we can´t do that in here , want to wish you good luck but please get an apointment as soon as possible at your GP so you can get help

I agree, it is time to see a doctor again, and this time insist on a better answer. Blood glucose levels can easily be 7.8 after eating. Can you remember if you had eaten or drunk anything in the couple of hours before your test, and what it was? The usual test for a diabetes diagnosis is an HbA1c, so if you are very worried, you could ask for one of these.

A blood sugar of 7.8 is normal. A random blood sugar has to be over 11.1 to prompt further tests to investigate diabetes, 7.8 is far below this and normal.

People diagnosed with type 1 diabetes are diagnosed with blood sugar usually over 20 or 30. Type 1 diabetes in a 16 year old is an acute onset condition. You don't have undiagnosed type 1 diabetes for more than a year without dying.

Have you had things like uti and bladder problems ruled out?

We cannot tell you if you have Diabetes or not. Go back to your surgery and ask for tests, I would ask for the HbA1c and kidney function tests. These tests are cheap and if nothing else they will rule out Diabetes and let the GP know that other tests are needed. Good luck.
