Hi everyone

forgive me i think i am still very confused about my diabetes. The guidelines are saying as long as 2 hours after food we are 8.5 or under then we are controlling it is that the same for someone who is not on meds.

I have decided to add a little more carbs in as I cannot handle such lowcarb I am feeling awful to be honest and very very jittery I have been on it 3 weeks now so today i had a little oats at breakfast and 1/4 tin of lentils with my salmon salad at lunch and of course i am getting 8s showing up highest was 8.4 after breakfast and 8.1 after the lunch. I just cant cope 100 % low carb like i was on I woke up last night warm and feeling like i had such anxiety in my sleep very uncomfortable.

Hi @coleyd
Am I right in thinking you are fairly recently diagnosed? It took me a couple of months to even get a fasting reading under 7 as per guidelines. I think at that time I would have been delighted to have some (any) readings under 8.5 after a meal. I think that is a good starting point although I do now 2 years on try for much tighter control. I didn't do very low carb but I did cut out the carbs my body couldn't cope with. I tested before a meal and 2 hours after and I tried to keep the rise less than 2. Your feeling awful may be due to your body trying to adjust to low carb and much lower blood sugars than it has been used to. Try and see if there are some carbs that your body can cope with. Take it slowly and try a few different things. Keep testing as that will show you how your body is coping. It took me 6 months to get control that I was happy with and I'm still learning and making mistakes.

Hiya yes I am new only got diagnosed around the 10th of feb and i am susceptible to eating disorders I had just vowed to eat a balanced diet when i got hit with the diagnosis I am a victim of orthorexia and i used to think animal foods would kill me ! I would like some balance I dont mind keeping off the breads pasta white potato but would like to eat some oats and lentil and chickpeas

You have to see what works for you. If you feel unwell on very low carb, then experiment with your meter until you find a level where you feel well.
Dropping your BG levels very quickly can make you feel odd. Take it a bit slower and accept it's a marathon and not a sprint.
Are you on medication ? that could affect how you feel too.

I am not on any meds and need to keep it that way i hope my blood pressure has also come down a good bit still raised but much better but still i will be hoping to get the carbs up a bit without the bs going crazy

Try reheating potato or reheated rice but becareful as rice has bacteria if left uneaten but these carbs doesn't spike me. I found out recently porriage doesn't either but I'm wondering if my basal on my mixed insulin is mopping it up.
I've tried vlc and started with dizziness and palpatations. Ended up on a beta blocker which has given me asthma. Hence I don't vlc any more but low carb is fine for me.
I'm due to see my new cardiologist to get the low down on the carb effect on my heart.
