Nothing really.....maybe brussel sprouts! Oh yep. Here's a good one! People who treat you with contemp. The second they do, they are a lost cause and you will never be the same to them or them to you....
I was diagnosed last year with Type 2, wee bit of a shock but read a lot both on here and the literature from the NHS. I also attended four, four hour 'diabetes awareness' sessions run through the local hospital. So I thought I was educated, or at least partially educated in what I am supposed to be doing.... I am diet controlled and take
Simvastatin 40mg once per day.
I check my blood regularly, although the policy here is no testing for Type 2's as it allegedly stresses people out. I test myself because I was feeling ill a lot of the time and I wanted to know if it is related to whether I have high or low readings.
However, recently I have been feeling really, really ill and this is what's worrying me....
About a month ago I spent two days barely able to get out of bed, I felt like I was burning inside and I was really, really tired. My BG was averaging at around 8 but on more than one occasion it was as high as 15 over the two days. I like to think I eat properly and I do check the content of most packets for sugar and carbs, I can't seem to find rhyme nor reason as to why my sugars are all over the place.
I've had another two bouts of being unable to function properly since then and have pretty much taken a couple of days to recover. I discussed what I was feeling with a friend and they said the aches I'm getting sounds very much like neuropathy (peripheral?). It's definetly related to my BG levels as they are always between 9 and 15 when these bouts come on.
Last night was literally the worst I've felt. Again I had this 'light burning' all over, I started to shake and tested my bloods again to see what is going on. I was down at 4 which is the lowest so far. I took a couple of boiled candy sweets, it was that or casualty I was feeling so bad. The sweets did the trick and after half an hour I genuinely felt a lot better. Of course I didn't check my BG levels again...in my infinite wisdom.
If I overdo the sugar intake, for whatever reason, I tend to get bad stomach cramps and everything runs out of me. I just put that down to over eating what I shouldn't! I hasten to add I'm not overweight and I don't...ok rarely....drink alcohol.
Any ideas why my BG is 4 one minute and 15 the next?? And should I be kicking my Doctor into touch because of these symptoms??
Thanks for reading this!

You might find that the statins are having this affect on you, they can be ****. Read Dr Kendrick for his take on statins. Start low carbing that is no white stuff, pasta, rice, spuds. Fruit such as berries, bacon eggs, avocadoes for good fats. Lots of stuff to read about on this forum.

Meant to ask, what is your cholesterol levels? Gp's tend to just stick you statins with no other reason than that's the protocol.

I'll need to find them, but they were only four points off the higher level. It was the diabetic nurse that put me on them. I go back to her next month as that will be my six monthly check up.
I cant continue like this so she's in for a bit of a shock when I go and see her....I pretty much have a list for her!
Sorry I meant to add, the
Pharmacist told me when I was given the simvastatin that it was the cheapest one and if I had any problems I was to go back and he'd give me the more expensive one! Apparently they start you on the cheapest and move you up the more issues you have..... A bit of a joke really!!

My money would be on the statins too - they're well documented to cause problems in many people. I came off Simvastatin myself (actually my DN that suggested to) as I was having muscle and mobility issues. It didn't change anything, but sometimes the problems they cause can be permanent(I'd been on it for a long time), but I certainly wouldn't go back on them having done a lot of reading at the time. Do some research about the problems Simvastatin can cause. Have your issues started since you started on the meds?

Whilst a BG of 15 might make you feel a bit ropey until it drops, if you're not used to it, I would be surprised if that alone would cause you to take you to your bed.

Generally BG reacts to what you eat and if you're maybe eating unsuitable foods, might give occasional unexpected spikes to some foods that really don't suit you - what had you eaten before the high readings? But stress and illness can cause it to rise sharply too (such as fighting a developing infection), so maybe the bout of illness in itself caused an elevation.

Hi @Keatak,

I notice that you take morphine mst and Amitryptilin. You really need a medication review as these may be contributing to the way that you feel. It may be the statins and your G.P. needs to give you an explanation as to why he thinks you will benefit from taking these, you need to make an informed choice.

Have you seen the side effects listed here for morpine mst and amitryptiline?

http://www.nhs.uk/medicine-guides/p...itriptyline 25mg/5ml oral solution sugar free (These include changes in blood sugar levels and diarrhoea)

You don't mention a typical day's menu. There may be something that you are including in some meals that is raising your blood sugars.

Sorry cannot be of more help.

Yes you should really consult your doctor about any problems there could be could be when taking the statins with your other medications. You seem happy with the diet you are on so you just need to find out what is making you have these episodes when you feel really ill and you BG levels go haywire and your doctor needs to find out why it is happening
