Today when to a japanese restaurant, eat 4 piece of sushi and a bowl of unagi rice.Already bolus with 8 unit ( ready for the big carbs in those rice). Go back home and 2 hour later my meter read 23 mol. Do correction bolus of another 8 unit and 1 hour later still at 13 mol. Why sushi cause so much spike?

The rice and the lack of fat in the meal.

I am from Thailand Rice and noodles are the main Asian Diet and eating fish isn't a problem. The car has given a high reading!
Since I have been on low carb diet, I eat it between 50 to 100 g maximum (depends on.my exercises)a day. I had been on insulin because the diet is working the consultant ordered me that could stop using the insulin.
Go to Diabetic UK and find out more on Ketonic diet and enroll yourself in the Low carb programme.
Best of luck.

Still poking my finger every 15 minute to see what my bs is. Look like it not going down as fast as i like. At time like this i wish i have a cgm with me now.

You just need to learn how to bolus for each type of food, having Type1 and using MDI you can eat any food you wish if you get the bolus right. (It would not be wise to overload on carbs often, but MDI lets you choose to eat them when you decide to.) Taking a short walk after the high carb food may also help.

Remember that stress also increases BG so the stress of the first high reading may partly be blamed for the 2nd high reading.

I find when my BG is above about 14, I become temporarily insulin resistant and need more insulin to correct.
But if you do so, bear in mind you are likely to have some insulin remaining from your meal as it last about 4 hours. I simplify my calculations by assuming an even distribution. So after 2 hours, I would assume half your insulin remaining: about 4 units.

However, as you are type 1, you should still be able to eat sushi. It will take some trial and error to work out how much insulin and when. It may include multiple doses or taking insulin in advance.

I often eat sushi and do a rough calculation of 1 unit per plate (2 pieces of rice-based sushi) and none for sushimi (which does contain fat). I can take this at the time of eating but all bodies are different.

I tend to eat low to moderate carbohydrate meals to prevent BG spikes. When I'm having a (much needed!) day off and I'm having rice or pasta, for example, I take my usual bolus plus 50% as a dual wave bolus through my pump.
If you're using pens/MDI then what I used to do was take a bolus before food then another one 50% the size 2 hours later.
Everyone is different - you need to work out what works for you. A bit of trial and error!!

If going to the gym isn't possible, try skipping in the garden or running up and down the stairs a few times. Dancing is good too......

White rice can be a tricky one. I tend to eat it only with Thai green curry, and definitely need to think a lot about pre-bolusing and a split, but it can still be unpredictable.

Brown rice, on the other hand, actually seems to stabilise my levels very well. Presumably because the fibre is slowing things down.

Same with noodles. Rice noodles a nightmare, egg noodles fine.

I think i should avoid them for a while until i learn how to control my bs better with mdi. My parents was so worry that i go DKA.

Join the great Diabetes life ,that is the story of all of us!
Walking through the aisles of any grocery store you will soon
find out 80 %of what is available, isn’t good for us to eat
It takes a lot of willpower to resist (which I often lack)
But I encourage you to stick to the low carb regime
It is well worth it.you will find much support on this forum,

I use Konjac.

It’s a tuber grown in the Philippines and manufactured in Japan.

It’s zero carb, zero sugar, zero calories.

They come as pasta or noodles available at Holland & Barrett.

8 unit novorapid to drop from 23 to 13, then add another 5 unit and overshot to 4.4 now. Look like we are more insulin resistant when we have high sugar.

Look like i overshot too much, reading dropped to 3.4 now .This is like a wild goose chase already.

I want to know from T1s, how come you can eat “anything you want” as claimed by many T1s?

Is that statement correct?

I’m curious to know.

I sure most T1 can(remember t1 can also become insulin resistant so the idea of taking tons of insulin to correct carbs intake is a bad idea in a long run), but since i recently diagnosis and maybe still in honeymoon or i just bad at calculate my bolus for my carbs intake.

I still think the general idea is if your diabetic (do not care what is your type), limiting carbs still a good idea because today i learned my lesson the hard way.
