I can't believe my doctor

My doctor has ask me to go and have a blood test to ascertain the state of my kidney's, BUT she has given me 75MG of IRBESARTAN, which are a low dose for blood pressure and as i read the instructions i can't believe all the side affect's.
I am taking 2000MG of Metformin, but i wonder if there are any people on the forum that make point me in the direction of some knowledgable advice.

Irbesartan is used for high blood pressure but is also used to treat kidney problems caused by diabetes.It is an ARB (angiotensin II receptor blocker) it relaxes blood vessels. Most medicines have side effects and you just have to decide for your self if the benefits out weigh the draw backs.I take some drugs that have truly horrendous side effects but without them I would be in a very bad situation.

Agreed John. Its easy to knock some meds re their side effects but for a good few of us, the alternative is a worse option.

I think the Patient Information Leaflet lists just about all the side effects it can. That a side-effect is on the list doesn't mean you, or anyone else, will suffer from it.

Unfortunately high blood pressure is known as the silent killer, because is affects so many parts of us without realising. The kidneys are usually prime targets (hence the test), and on it goes.

My diabetes was picked up as a result of a series of higher than acceptable blood pressure readings and bloods taken to assess kidney health, so diabetes and higher blood pressure are a common combo.

I have never taken medication for my BP, but agreed a while to try getting things back into order with diet and exercise, which worked for me. It doesn't work for everyone, and depending on all factors - your actual BP, wider medical history, family history and so on, you should keep an open mind on blood pressure medication.

What is it you actually want to know? You ask for a pointer in the right direction, but nothing specific about the purpose?
