Hey all!
Just need a bit of a rant! As some of you will have seen from another of my posts, I've had a bad cold for the last week or so and my BG has been going to 12/13. Anyway, my cough has been getting worse and I felt like it was going to my chest, so I rang the doctor for advice. When I told the receptionist I am diabetic, she told me to come down straigt away - full marks to her  Unfortunately that's where the good care news ends. I saw a new doctor who listened to my chest and said he thought it was clear at the moment and then asked about my BG levels. I explained that they have been spiking at 12/13 and that I am taking double my usual dose of insulin to try to control them. He said 'Oh it's better that they are high than low' and then went on to say 'You should always keep them between 8 and 9 to avoid hypos' Obviously, I corrected him and told him that I try to keep mine in the 5-7 range, but he clearly didn't agree and I was in no fit state to argue with him. I came away glad that i don't have a chest infection (assuming he's competent to diagnose that), glad that I've been getting good advice from Pneu and Dillinger and others on this forum, and in absolute despair of the advice these GPs are giving diabetics. Thank goodness I managed to persuade my consultant to keep me on his books at the clinic for another year when he wanted to discharge me back to the 'care' of my GP.
OK, rant over! Thanks for listening!
