Over the last couple of days I have been very naughty (food wise I hasten to add) yesterday I ate veggie enchilada and potatoe wedges (not the full serving that was put on my plate - but I was full) for lunch then mid afternoon tea and chocolate eclair :shifty: 2 hours later 6.1 . Today, scrambled eggs on toast for brekkie, lunch, because we were travelling, was a kit kat thought I would be skywards with my reading but I was 5.8!!!!!!
On each of the last two days I have probably at least doubled my carb intake and yet my readings have been lower than when I have been watching my carbs.
Still have problems with the DP though
What on earth is my body playing at......?

Try measuring at different times say one hour and/or three hoursrather than two just to make sure you aren't missing a really big spike.

Otherwise I find a similar thing. If you low carb for long enough then I find I can get away with a higher carb meal or two. I put this down to what I think of as the "borofergie bucket theory". Very roughly your liver effectively acts as a glucose store which when you low carb never fills up. A high carb meal will fill the bucket up in preference to raising your levels. Consequently you can get away with things for a while but once the bucket gets full then you will start to see your levels rise. The phenomenon must be known about as presumably it is why you have to eat more than 150g / day for 3 days to make a glucose tolerance test produce a valid result.

Alternatively if you have lost a load of weight then your insulin resistance may have dropped which could well mean the insulin you are producing is working more effectively.

Again it could be what you are eating the things with. Recently I've discovered up to two rounds of cheese on (Burgen) toast is back on my menu. It doesn't touch my BG's at all. Two rounds of burgen with nothing on them send me through the roof. The fat in the cheese is slowing things down. I do a similar trick with fruit. I find I can eat up to 150g of pure fruit (whatever mix) as long as it's consumed with a decent quantity of double cream.

It might be worth doing a bit of a controlled experiment and say up your carbs for a few days and see if the good results keep happening. If they do then you have some more choices but make sure those extra carbs are mostly healthy ones!

Thanks Xyzzy I shall do as you say. I have eaten a little more carb tonight to see if that effects the morning reading. I'm not usually naughty, but I found it interesting as to what had happened. May consider using the 5:2 fasting diet, it might work for me.! Back to normal tomorrow, long weekend with OH over today, but it was nice to relax the eating habits for a couple of days.
