I have been diabetic since 97 and yet I feel I don't hardly know anything about it. I see people that have been diagnosed this year seem to know way more about diabetes than I do. I joined this forum in 2010 and I admit it wasn't till later 2010/early 2011 that from using this forum that carbs affect yr bg levels. My question is sometimes I really do not understand the BG levels I get sometimes eg, Tuesday night my BG was 9 when i was getting ready for bed. I ate approx 120g of milk chocolate. I expected my morning BG to be high but it was 6.4. Last night my bedtime BG was 9.5 I didn't eat anything so expect my BG to have gone down a bit by morning. I tested when I got up it was 10, I tested again before my breakfast about an hour and half later and it had gone down to 9.8. Other times I've tested when I've got up and then again an hour and half later when I have my breakfast it has usually gone up by 2mmols, I just don't understand it at all! Any ideas?

Your varying morning/fasting BG levels could be related to Dawn Phenomenon:

Personally, I find the morning levels to be so variable and trying to find a pattern for why they change so much very confusing - so confusing I'm tempted to forget about testing then - but then I'm type 2 and not on medication. It's very frustrating

Hi Sarah, like you, my levels can be all over the place, I can eat exactly the same, at the same time over a period of a few days, and never get the same results (up or down), there is no rhyme or reason to it.
My DNS said it is my pancras coughing and spluttering like an old car, trying to give full power, but keeps losing it.
Replace power for body produced insulin, combined with injected insulin, somedays you produce less insulin than another, but inject the same, your BG level rises.

If anyone can explain it clearer, please go ahead, as my word smithing isn't so hot these days.
