I suppose I'm having a bit of a moan - sorry to anyone reading this - but I'm so fed up of being tired all the time, getting up all night long for bathroom visits, guzzling all day long and having freezing cold hands!!
Symptoms of uncontrolled diabetes.
Still haven't managed to bring my sugars down that much although I was quite happy at my fasting sugars this morning at 8.9 - lowest its been for a while! When I had my cold a week ago my sugars were around 19 for a couple of days, did I feel ill but the pharmacist said continue to take my tablets and don't worry about it being high, you've got a cold. My diabetic nurse wasn't too happy about this but my sugars had come down to 14 by the time I got an appt to see her!
19 & 14 are unacceptably high for fasting BS. Did you do after meal readings? (1 & 2 hour) Uncontrolled diabetes.
Am waiting for my hospital appt but does anyone know if they will actually do anything about my diabetes at that appt or tell me to make further changes to my diet and come back and see us in 3 mths time? Also my current GP is rather miffed that when I was diagnosed as a Type 2 at 28 I wasn't referred to see anyone despite my BS at diagnosis being 23 and a fasting blood test was 13. Should I have been?
Good that your GP was miffed. I was referred to an education programme which takes place every week at West Middx Hospital. Seeing somebody should result in care advice regarding diet, medication, foot care, exercise, & what to expect. Diet is likely to include: "Eat starchy foods with every meal" to quote from the NHS "Healthy Eating for Diabetes." That advice is WRONG. We can't digest starchy foods properly & they cause a rise in BG. I followed that advice for years, & proved the doctrine that diabetes is progressive. Starchy foods (carbohydrates should be reduced to around 100 g/day or what I did was simply reduce the carb on my place to about 1/3. The benefits were measurable at my next blood test & I have reduced my medication, & my weight & cholesterol, all within 3 months. I am also much less tired, & my physical activity is back to normal from being seriously restricted.
Would my diabetic control be better now if I had of seen somebody? To be honest I had to push to test my sugars, otherwise they were content to let me carry one as I was!
Yes. Especially if yu followed good advice.
Thanks for letting me air it off my chest, okay I still want to fall asleep but can do so now without wanting to cry
Guess I am having one of those low moments.
Now you've woken again, I hope the advice is helpful.
