I saw my doctor and along with a lecture on the cost, I got a prescription for one pack of test strips. Next month I shall add them to my repeat when I order from the pharmacy. I was also told that whatever I do I'll end up on insulin and that aiming for an HbA1c of around 5% is quite unnecessary.
I said it is necessary to me. He also said that some of the studies done on diabetic diet are good, but didn't elaborate. does anyone know hthem?
 
Well done on obtaining your test strips, Good Luck on trying to get them on repeat!

I did have test strips on repeat but the other day I went to re order some and found they had gone from my repeat prescription so I had to visit the GP to request them.

Bear in mind that I have been keeping up with various PCT removing the test strips I wasn't surprised when she said I could no longer have them on repeat prescription, as the PCT had removed all test strips from all Type 2 patients as they do not benefit testing their bloods!

I explained that I had just had a hospital appt, medication changed and a letter would follow in due course but I was now injecting Byetta and advised to test my sugars at least twice a day, of course if you aren't going to let me have any test strips I can't do that, I can buy them myself but I wouldn't be testing twice a day!

She was quite nice though and once I explained she did say it was silly to have the rule apply to all Type 2's but for the time being I'd have to see her to get my strips on prescription, she could only do one off prescriptions for me but I happily left with a prescription for 150 strips!! :D

Ask him why nondiabetics don't get diabetic complications.
 
You know, this is why we need the NHS. Because consider how bad this is - and then think about how the US system would handle it...
 
I don't ask my doctor for strips, I ring reception and tell them I NEED a repeat prescription of *such and such* - oh and a pack of test strips ... receptionist confirms brand and I pick them up two days later. IF at some point I am refused I will cause a major bleeding ruckus with my GP and advise him that had I been told properly what carbs do to ones system when diabetic when I was pregnant I wouldn't sodding well need them *humf* ... add dramatic stomping ... I genuinely hope to never have to do that ... but I think that diabetes can only be dealt with adequately with the proper tools ... and diagnostic equipment such as strips are VITAL to enable diebtics to not only deal with this "disorder" but to UNDERSTAND the effect of the food they consume - which IS the number one thing we need to get our heads round.
