being forced to work with 5 other diseases.
3 years ago i was told im type 2 at 54 years of age. i went on metformin and it made me sick as hell.
Nurse told me to control by diet which i did for a while but time went by i started disbelieve i was
diabetic and then went back to my old ways of way too much alcohol and ate any thing i liked and
that was any thing i could chuck down my throat. My right foot started to itch and then got worse
until i was was told its an ulcer common to diabetics....oops now i believe you but the situation has
got worse as spots have appeared down my legs and now down my arms which has now been
diagnosed as "VASCULITIS" I FEEL SO STUPID NOW. Awaiting to see a specialist
 

Ok, that is tough, but you still can improve your health by eating better and exercising.

Stop feeling stupid, and start afresh.

Lots of support and advice on here, so how about making a plan of how you can improve your situation?
 
sorry to hear that, they have very good treatment now and I'm sure you will be ok, when do you see the DR?
do you have a home blood test meter?
a lot here do low carb or LCHF to get their BG as good as they can with diet
 
Wow you folks are quick on the replies, yes iv visited my local pub (not for booze mind) and started eating
normal food like turkey and as much vegges i can handle. i had a juice extractor delivered yesterday and
tried a couple of smoothys. iv also bought a blood test meter (though the nurses said you dont need one
if ya type 2)....yeah right!!!. Last week readings were 10 or more today its 7.4
 
If it motivates you to stay on the straight and narrow then a meter is worth its weight in gold, that's the way I look at it

Hi and welcome. Yes, go easy on the juice extractor. Keep the carbs down overall and do get a meter. The nurse should have put you on Slow Release Metformin (The SR version). Ask the specialist for that. Metformin does help a bit if you are overweight
 
Thanks for the welcome folks, and so quick. I forgot to mention that doc gave me the metformin alturnative
tablets but they had the same effect and so thats why the nurse said to go by diet. i would eat paper if did
me any good but if theres one thing ill miss it will any thing like pots and pasta. Im also looking for type
of bread suitable for us as iv used wholemeal for some 25 years now.
 
@livinabox Whatever you do now, just take it slowly at first, we all respond differently to the many diets etc; out there.
Your BG meter will become your friend as you try different foods etc;
I found that many of the books and small print, done my brain in.
This forum has been very helpful and friendly, ( a few odd balls including me ).
Your Doctor should change medication that make you sick.
Being a odd ball, 2 years ago I went on a vegan type diet with good results and no medication for diabetics. Simple point being many diet types out there. ( I still miss Lamb chops )
Hope you find what is best to control both your vasculitis and diabetes.

yep green smoothy was what i tried last night with an apple a pair some spinach and a couple of other things.
but but but i stayed awake all night with no discomfort but fell asleep around 7am and woke at 10:30.
that has never happened before so kind of weard. i guess i gave my self some kind of anti tiredness boost.
Your not laughing are you.....tell me ya not ;-)
 
Watch the fruit in your smoothies, I only have berries, eg. strawberries, raspberries, blueberries. I use spinach, kale, cucumber, celery. But I have a nutriblast and it chews up everything.
 

Not laughing at all. Honest.
@dawnmc makes a good point though. Make those smoothies mainly veg, with added berries. If you can blend the whole veg and fruit you get more nutrients than if you just had juice. I put avocado in too. Stops me feeling hungry.
 
On the subject of "Kale" iv looked all over my town and in the big super markets and i cannot find it
any where. in fact people even the asian people say theyv never heard of it. Im from Bedfordshire
btw.

That is weird. Though it is a winter veg, it has been generally available all year. Is there a farmers' market?

I do get it in Tesco, here though. (Lancs)
 
so Tesco it is tomorrow.
 
I live in Scotland and we can get it in all the supermarkets up here. It is shredded though so no good for dehydrating.

I put a bag of kale in the freezer. Then take a handful out each time I want to make a green smoothie. It blends easily when frozen.
 
I get mine from Asda, it's in the fresh good section. Had some more delivered last week, so I think it's still likely they have some.
 
Kale is invariably bagged in the salad section.
