Totally pigged out on a 13 inch Domino's pizza last night. I won't even be using my meter for few days cos I'm scarred to look. :shock:
 
I would imagine even the 'pizza effect' will have worn off by now!!!Go on be a devil and go and test!! :lol: :twisted:

Pizza is not a problem provided you know how to counter the inevitable spike in blood sugar. But you do need to be on insulin to have a chance of doing so, ideally with a pump so that the meal bolus can be extended for the correct amount of time. I am "lucky" to be in this club, and can maintain a flat bg level of below 7 in this way, but it did take a few dire mistakes to get to this point!

Also I make my own pizza dough (SO much better than bought), and that way can be certain how much and what type of flour to use. My 12" pizzas contain just under 60g of carb, but I do appreciate that even this "moderate" quantity is too much for some.
 
I recommend experimenting with the many and various flours available until you find one you are happy with (and like the taste of). I can only talk from an insulin perspective and without this, nothing's going to cut the spike completely but it can be reduced.
 
Best thing to do is don't beat yourself up. just make sure it doesn't happen again LOL My fave takeaway treat is a mixed chicken and lamb shish kebab from the local Greek place. Loads of salad and greek yoghurt. Lovely, I just leave the pitta (sometimes I don't...shhhh!) If I don't eat the pitta it has minimal effect on BG!

Those "healthy" slow burning starchy carbs turn in to glucose as they are digested.

The healthy plate is really based on glucose and the slower digestion of those starches keeps the blood sugar numbers higher for longer after you have eaten.

Succesful diabetics - those with lower sugar numbers - reduce the amount of starchy carbohydrate they eat whatever approach they take to their diet.

It isn't just about not eating sugar. You also need to reduce the amount of things you eat that turn in to glucose as your body digests then. Starch very quickly turns to glucose when it is being digested.
