firstly,I've been very absent and for this I apologise...and hope that all who read this are well!

I'm probably like so many people with DB, with me going into total denial and falling way off the wagon.

In sept I was quite ill, with some quite upsetting DB symptoms 'downstairs'

Anyway, what with the better half giving me grief...I decided to actually do something about this god awful condition....

Since the first week in Oct, I've now lost just shy of 2 stone and 4 inch off my waste.
This was so very easy, with a few miles walk every day and a few minutes on the exercise bike...as fast as I could.

My post meal BG levels ( I do low carb) are now in the 4.3 to 5 mmol levels.

I also binned the metformin ( NOT THAT THIS SHOULD BE RECOMMENDED, I KNOW, WITHOUT THE OK OF YOUR DOCTOR), as even with the ER version I never felt that great!

I have a appointment with my Dr next week and I'm hoping that I will get the official 'nod' to no longer have metformin prescribed.....though I always will be a diabetic.

I hope that anyone reading this who has had a rough time with DB will be encouraged to fight and win!

Well done on the weight loss and getting your BG level down. I hope it goes well with the GP next week.

Many Thanks for this and the kind thoughts above...
Ive just tested myself 11/2 hrs after eating a chicken and lamb kebab ( no pitta/naan bread), with plenty of mixed salad ( onion, cabbage and tomato)...and a minute on the bike immediately after. I hit 5.3mmol, which is still ok. I've been going through the readings on this particular meter ( I do prefer my IBGstar but the strips are expensive) and they were truly frightening. I can only assume that a combination of the weight loss, high impact exercise ( flat out on bike for a few minutes) and my taking things seriously are having the desired effect. I'm sure that also watching the BBC series Dr in the house has also helped....along with the better half actually looking at the carb content in the day to day food that the rest of the family seem to thrive on. She tries to stick to below 10%... with the exception of 'healthier' bread and spuds....even my super fit 6ft middle son has shed 7lb by cutting out crisps and the occasional bar of chocolate.

Brilliant post Dave, congrats on your progress in such a short time!

Lovely and thanks!

I've been type 2 ( diagnosed ) for a few years..3 I think... and I joined here almost immediately.
Like many people I did 'TRY' to get my bloods sorted at the beginning ( porridge, 'healthy' bread etc) but my heart wasn't quite in it.

I must stress that it hasn't taken me 3 years to 'fix' myself...just two months of being grown up and realising that I'm not the immortal being that I always thought I was.

Oh....and a diet of steak, chicken, meatballs, tomatoes, eggs, bacon, veg and the very occasional glass of home made black currant vodka.

Well done DaveNN, you're doing brilliantly and a post like yours is encouraging for those who think they can't do anything about their levels :)

Sadly, not everyone can and I Just hope that if anyone who is struggling are encouraged to improve their readings ( without compromising their current wellbeing)...if only a little....then a little bit more...etc etc

Oh well.... It seems that the low readings have been attributed to me being....ta daaa... Diabetic! My readings have bounced back to the low 7s, with little ( if any) change in my diet. That was the upsetting bit. My HBA1c has dropped over 30% since Sept and my Dr was more than delighted with that....even more so when this was done without Metformin. BUT, this is relative, as my figures were still 67. Anyway, the good lady has taken me off Met and stuck me on one dose of Glic' a day....as the effects of Met ( even extended release) were still horrific.
On reading up on Glic' , I've decided to not even cash in the script until the results of my next HBA1c in April....a drop of a further 20% would be good.
I've just checked by BG, post meal, and I've presented 6.7mmol......which may or may not be totally meaningless BUT at least it's a lowish figure.
Anyway...happy new year and thanks for reading!
