Which diet were you on as I would like to give it a go?I can't believe that I have gone from 58 to 38 in three month. Nurse says if I get below 31 then I'll come off their diabetic list altogether.
I thank each and every one of you guys for all your support, advice and ìn formation. You've literally given me my life back.

[QUOTE="... He then told me that if my total cholesterol remained 'high' on the next test (ie above 5 mmol) he would 'have to' prescribe statins - this despite the fact that my score of 5.2 would count as 'optimal' in most of Europe, Canada and Australia (he didn't know this, either).....

I have been advised by my doctor if my next HBA1C drops below 32 from the 38 it was in my last one I will be taken off their diabetic register. I am obviously aiming to get this as low as possible but I will ask to stay on the list so I get the long term support I need to manage and control things in the coming years.Congratulations on your results, keep up the good work but I am newly diagnosed 6/7 weeks ago and I may not no a lot but you will always be diabetic/ you will always be on the list
What did you do to get it down?I can't believe that I have gone from 58 to 38 in three month. Nurse says if I get below 31 then I'll come off their diabetic list altogether.

VLCHF diet and exercise. 75% Fat, 20% Protein 5% Carb. I got an activity tracker which drove my step count up daily. Always check with a healthcare professional before hand. What did you do to get it down?
I think I am one of the lucky ones in that I think I caught it early on before too much damage was done. A brilliant source of support and advice is the Dietdoctor.com site and of course this forum. The main low carb program is good but for me it advises too high carb intake to adopt ketosis.Oh right well I'm getting exercise, eating healthy, but it's a long road ahead with my chronic pancreatitis also not putting on any weight

I hope it all goes well. It sound a lot more complex than My situation sadly but it's not to say that there isn't a way back with help.Thx for that my levels have come down from 30 to 15 and my nurse wants to up my gliclazide to 160mg morning/evening and also up metformin next week then when I go for Mir scan next week of pancrease because they think it might be the pancreatic duct so that's why I had the c-peptide and GAD test to see if I'm late type 1 or LADA if that makes sense........also I'm a nhs patient

Well done so far. I think the only thing I can say is try not to worry too much about what your next HBA1C will be as if you are low carbing and in ketosis it should be hopefully better but it will be what it will be and it will be your best indicator that you're on the right path.Hi all,
I was 'labelled' at the end of April with a subsequent hb1ac of 97 ..... Which at the time meant nothing, but I subsequently realised was high - and freaked!
I now have embarked on a major diet and exercise regime and have lost 3 stone to date (18st to 15st)
My next hb1ac I think is due in August - but ask what would be a realistic expectation to achieve at this test - any ideas - or is it how long is a piece of string?? I don't want to come away gutted if it is still high.
If it is any help my initial fasting finger prick test on diagnosis was 12, but one take a couple of weeks ago was 6.6.
I'm not doing my own readings - yet, and tbh, I'm still weighing up whether I want to do this.
Any advice or experience please??
Thx
