Today I spoke to a Dr about repeat iron test and should I have any other bloods as other week I had mild DKA with normal blood sugars.
He proceeded to tell me you “you can’t go into DKA with normal blood sugars”
I was absolutely stunned, and although my tone was slightly stern, I proceeded to tell him, he should never tell someone that as it’s an untruth.
I say untruth because when I told him you can he said, yes usually on tablets like empaglaflozin.
So in my eyes he does know it can happen but proceeded to tell me you can’t anyway.
I explained I was in hospital with Euglycemic DKA, he said “it’s not something I’m up on”
All is said back was “maybe a bit of reading could help” wasn’t being funny but knowledge is power and all that.
He’s wrote on my record I was confrontational and Told him he should read up on it.
I didn’t tell him, I said maybe a little reading could help.
I’m not mad he may not be knowledgeable, I know it’s rare, I’m upset he knows you can have dka with normal sugars but proceeded to tell me you can’t.
I know we have endo’s but it was a simple question to him regarding bloods.
Anyway that’s my rant of the day.
On another note, the skier
on Olympics yesterday shown her diabetes badge to the camera, the commentary box said, oh she’s showing her rose badge. I knew what it was and good on her
Hope you all having a good day xx
