New to low carbing and thought I was doing really well. Went shopping in Aldi and carefully checked all the labels for the carbohydrates got to the till and picked up a pack of sugar free mints for the car. Ate the whole pack on a 2hr car drive today and when I was about to throw the box out decided to check and each 3grm serving had 3.1 grms carbohydrates and the box contained 44grms. Oops! Fortunately I had very few carbs before that but was really caught out by the "Sugar Free" label.

Oh dear checked the pack and the sweetners are isomalt and sucralose searched them on this site and they can cause an upset stomach!! I think I will forsake my 40 minute walk tonight as my tummy has been making some remarkable sounds and think it could be 40 mins in the bathroom instead.....this low carbing is complicated.

My strategy regarding food labels was to stop buying factory processed food. Especially after I started looking at ingredients lists and not just the nutrient percentages.
I make all our meals from scratch never convenience meals but being partial to sweet things did buy cakes or scones at the weekend but using recipes from this site I have now started baking. When I see the additives and sugar on labels it really makes me stop and think.
