Hi Steve and welcome

Try reading through the low carb forum for diet ideas. Although low carbing doesn't suit everybody its a good starting point for getting your diabetes under control and hopefully helping with your weight problem. Byetta is also know to have a weight loss side effect in most people.

You need to be able to test your blood glucose levels on a regular basis, if you haven got a test meter see if you can get your GP to give you one.

Any questions - someone will try and answer them for you

Hi Steve and welcome to the forum.

Give us an idea of what your blood sugar levels are (HBA1C and your own tests), your weight and the sort of things you would typically eat in the course of a day and I'm sure we'll be able to help you.

Hi Rambo
You have a very enlightened thoughtful doctor
Byetta is the lates thing for T2 with weight problems and some people have found it almost miraculous, It is VERY EXPENSIVE and many doctors aren't offering it on cost grounds.
THere are members of this forum on it and most reports are good. It doess however hava bit of a downside. for some people, it causes dreadful nausea. That's why it's usually started on minumum dose.
Read David Mendosa's website. He started Byetta and lost so much weight, that with strict low carb dieting, and exercise, he's now free of all medication.
you are taking Gliclazide at the moment and that makes i tdifficult to lose weight.
I was on it and didn't lose anything, whatever I ate, until I dropped gliclazide and went low carb. I lost 21/2 stones quite quickly, but now havw stopped losing. that's not the case for some other people, who have lost several stones low carbing.

Hi Rambo,

*hugs* bit of a mine field at the mo but you will get there.

My advise is low-carbing, like someone else on here suggested have a look on the frum for low-carb topics. This will help take your weight down and keep your blood sugar under control.
Get yourself a copy of the collin gem carb counter (Amazon - pretty cheap) which will help you see where the carbs are, and believe me you will be surprised.

Keep a food diary as well and test test test keeping a note everytime of what your readings are and when they were taken i.e before food, after food, 2hrs after food, doing this alone will help you know what you can and can't eat.

Good luck hunni!! it's hard right now but soon you'll be a pro.

Hi Steve,

Welcome to the site. I know exactly how you feel. I think everyone on this site has, at some point, felt exactly the same. It's so confusing, not knowing what you can eat, what you can't eat: one day you read one thing, then the next day you read something totally different and end up feeling really low and despondent. But have no fear - Diabetes.co.uk is here! :D This site has helped me tremendously, and I'm sure it will help you too.

I too suggest that you have a look at the low carb forum. I know that after I'd spent 2 or 3 days reading it, it started to make sense to me, and lifted a lot of weight off my shoulders, and removed a lot of the confusion. I've only been low carbing for a week, but I'm definitely going to give it a fair try, as I was diagnosed T2 a year ago, and couldn't understand why I just couldn't seem to get my triglycerides down. No-one has ever mentioned to me that carbs raise trigs.

A good site to have a look at is http://www.bloodsugar101.com/ I found it very informative (in a diabetes for dummies kind of way  ) including subjects like "You did NOT eat your way to diabetes!" It made me feel much better about myself :P

Whatever your questions, however simple and stupid you may think they sound, we've all asked them at some point! So ask away - there will somebody who can answer you :D

well its great to know there is so much information on here and very helpfull it is,thank you all who answered my plea for help its great to know help is always at hand on here
many thanks
regards steve :D
