hi folks i need some idea's for snacking i am due to go and work backstage as an amateur and i havent done a get in since i was found to have diabetes the trouble is once you start working in the set then you dont stop until stage is set so i need snacks to keep me going please help

I picked up a pkt of Cruga Biltong at my local Tesco petrol station. It was hanging on a rack where they click things to, not on a shelf. It's a South African product, marinated prime lean beef air dried and sliced and it's delicious. Comes in a 50g bag and is very handy if you like meat and you want a protein source you can take with you anywhere - Protein 46g, carb 2.7g, fat 5.2g per 100g.

You could also boil some eggs and mash them with mayonnaise, tins of fish, salad bits.

Also I think you need to acknowledge that you have diabetes and if you need a rest, then take one or two or as many as you might need - I know the show must go on and all that - but so must YOURS - so look after yourself. Good luck! :D

I just started to think of what I would like to snack on if I had such commitment to a job. Of course it got out of hand.

On Ebay I bought some of those plastic things they put Chinese food in since I cook and freeze meals. My "snack" ended up with one of those full of diced roast chicken with coleslaw on top with salad veg (spring onion, radish, tiny tomatoes, celery etc) and why not put in those roasted salted peanuts as well since they have the lowest GI of all.

Obviously I would need a spoon and a bib but what the hey..

Hartley sugar free jelly with cream. Not ideal as a grab and go snack, but lovely in the evening if the munches hit. Slices of ham with cream cheese wrapped up is another good one.

If you have an Asda near you then they sell a stack of multicoloured jelly moulds with lids (6 for £2). So you can make them up, put the lid on and take them with you.
