I've lost count of how many hypo's ive had in last month lol my pump is being changed on a daily basis and im still hypoing!!! oh the joys of diabetes and having a newish baby

i'm on less insulin now than ive ever been (30-35units approx per day)

stupid question but ill ask anyway... the less you weigh = less insulin needed? im only asking as i seem to weigh less now than i did before i got pregnant and the monkey is not even a month old :D and would help to explain why my insulin has dropped :)

As far as I can tell the amount of insulin you need is set by all sorts of factors: stress, food, exercise, temperature, how busy I am in work. Saying that, I have noticed that as my weight fluctuates, my insulin levels seem to fluctuate with it too.

Makes sense that tthe smaller you are the less insulin you need. And the more active too, which is inevitable with a new baby, Also are you breast feeding? that uses a LOT of calories.

My insinct says using Lucozade a lot is not a good thing.

Hi Dragonflye

I find that the less I weigh, the less insulin I need and vice versa if I eat more and gain weight, the more insulin.

Regarding Lucozade..... I bought litres of the stuff when I first started pumping and it was starting to burn a hole in my bank balance so I stopped and sought full sugar ginger beer (supermarket own brand for cheapness) and found it contained more sugar per 100ml than Lucozade and was considerably less expensive.

Nowadays,,,, I keep sweets and a biscuit on me when out and when indoors I just use 2tsp of sugar in a warm/hot cuppa coffee or tea.... Works more or less the same as Lucozade. Occasionally...... I'll still use some chocolate as that works well even with the so called fat in it.

Have you tried using a TBR for the hours that you find yourself going low and done a bit of 'trial and error' in finding out what will work...?

I've just been using lucozade out of habit :) I normally have glucogel but my doctors have changed the way they do repeat prescriptions and I'm now having issues getting it as frequently as I'm needing it, infact until I've seen a doc they wont let me order a repeat prescription.

I'm on a tbr of 75%, going to have to drop that even further overnight but dropping it even further during the day :) i manage to get it stable for a day or 2 then it needs changing :) dsn doesnt want to change my actual basal rates as when I stop expressing milk then she's hoping my sugars go back to "normal"... althou i remember they have never been too stable lol
