I recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I’m still trying to understand everything and adjust my lifestyle. At times it feels a bit overwhelming, especially with diet changes and keeping blood sugar under control.

I wanted to ask—what helped you the most in the beginning? Any simple tips for managing daily routine, food, or staying consistent would really help.

my initial diagnosis in 2006 was the change in everything and my huge then weight loss and my then phenomenal fitness and gym use
somewhat different now though

For me, Knowledge Is Power. I researched foods that were low in carbs and sugars, and kept away from ones that were high in these. I didn't make any other changes, but am a real nutrition geek. I ignored people's attempts to ruin my diet "You can have a small piece" "I've baked it just for you" The only management skills I needed was knowing which foods were okay to eat, and which not, and sticking to that regime. I lost a shedload of weight without trying to - I needed to - and brought my blood glucose down to non-diabetic levels. Lots of us here have done the same. I also don't eat breakfast, as I don't get hungry until lunchtime - no suffering involved -so every 24hours has a 16 hour natural fast. If this is un-doable for you, it isn't essential, just important not to eat until you are actually hungry, no matter what the clock says. Also, don't buy food you shouldn't be eating, then it doesn't sit in the cupboard and tempt you.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I don’t know anything about the system in Germany. What dietary changes has your doctor suggested? What have you tried so far? How high was your HbA1c (long term measure of blood glucose)?

Sorry for all the questions, but the more info we have the more helpful our members can be.

Hi Jane_55 & welcome to the forum :)

Like @Lakeslover says if you could share a bit more info it’s very helpful for both members & yourself to get the right advice.

Have you changed your diet at all? If so how are you finding it? What was your Hba1c on diagnosis? Did you have any symptoms before your diagnosis? Are you doing any exercise?
