I took myself to A&E

I've told my GP how unwell this is making me and he just doesn't seem concerned at all. I tried to see another GP but they said I need to see my own doc and that he will need to increase the Gliclazide or put me on insulin. My GP did increase it told me it's a slow process and pretty much ignored what I was saying. I'm worried about going to A&E again the doctor told me she was going to put me on fluids and insulin to get my gb down until I could see my GP. Then she came back and said she wasn't going to put me on fluids and there wasn't any point putting me on insulin because it will only go up again when I got home. My doc just wants to increase the gliclazide to the maximum dosage. The only person I feel listens to me is the diabetic nurse so I'm going to get in contact with her and see if she can help me.
 
Hi mand56. Bottom line (I know cos Ive just been through it!) Many GPs do not know LADA exists. They work on the basis that you can only be a type 1 if you are under 25 and if you are older than 25 you must be a type 2. This is not because their are cr*p doctors, its because they are GPs - GENERAL Practitioners so unless they have chosen to take a specialist interest in something, their knowledge is generalised to cover anything that walks through the door! Go back to your GP TOMORROW - phone at 8.30 am, request an urgent appointment for tomorrow and if they say no tell them you require a home visit (you will at least get to speak to the doctor), tell your GP that you want an urgent referral to a Diabetes Consultant, make sure you get his name - urgent referrals should be seen within two weeks. If you get symptoms that worry or scare you whilst you are waiting - phone an ambulance and go back to a & e. Keep in touch to let us know how you are doing, Sue xxxx
 
Max dose Gliclazide may help but it may prove to the GP that you need insulin. I was on max dose but didn't have enough working islet cells left to stimulate so the GP had no choice left but to move me to insulin. BTW even GPs who have recently come off the Warwick Diabetes training course don't seem to be told about LADA; ignorance all round. NICE does admit to late onset T1 but just refers to it as T1.
