I was on statins for a number of years before I was diagnosed with T2, and then discovered (thank you Google!) that they are known to raise glucose levels, and eventually stopped taking them with agreement from a different and rather laid back GP who was my diabetic support for a short time. As a result my
glucose levels came down a bit more, and my cholesterol levels have since remained in the same range (approx 4-5) as previously. So statins have been a fat lot of use to
me...
My favourite quote from my DN during my first T2 review, when I suggested that statins could be implicated in diabetes: "Yes - they're good for you"...
ETA I've just remembered - I had a result of 2.5 early on and was warned on the forum that it was not a good thing, though my GP was impressed. I can't remember having taken any action, but my results were back to usual range next review, and I've sometimes wondered if my GP had misinterpreted the figures...
