I want to come Off statins

I was on statins for a number of years before I was diagnosed with T2, and then discovered (thank you Google!) that they are known to raise glucose levels, and eventually stopped taking them with agreement from a different and rather laid back GP who was my diabetic support for a short time. As a result my glucose levels came down a bit more, and my cholesterol levels have since remained in the same range (approx 4-5) as previously. So statins have been a fat lot of use to me...:banghead:

My favourite quote from my DN during my first T2 review, when I suggested that statins could be implicated in diabetes: "Yes - they're good for you"... :wacky: o_O

ETA I've just remembered - I had a result of 2.5 early on and was warned on the forum that it was not a good thing, though my GP was impressed. I can't remember having taken any action, but my results were back to usual range next review, and I've sometimes wondered if my GP had misinterpreted the figures...

When my hba1c rose I mentioned to my DN that there was a correlation between raised BS and statins and she told me not to believe everything I read in the Daily Mail - her face was a picture when I told her I’d read it from the manufacturers website!

Well I had phone appointment with GP yesterday he is one of the most knowledgeable and easy to talk to GPS at my surgery.
First thing he said to me was to congratulate and praise me on getting HbA1c down from 90 to 40 in just over four months.
After I told him I had gone low carb but not keto he said that they should employ me at the surgery to educate other diabetics how to reduce their blood sugar levels , i then told him all the credit should go to this forum because without it I would not have been successful so far.
We then went onto my my medication, my metformin SR cut from 1000mgs to 500mgs a day to be reviewed in 3 months.
Another tablet for my blood pressure ( the bottom number is too high ) to be reviewed.
My cholesterol he agreed it was low but was a bit worried about the risk of a stroke especially with my high blood pressure, so he has reduced my Atovastatin from 40mgs to 10mgs to be reviewed later .
I know i could refuse to take the statin but this GP really listened to me but made a case for getting my sugars down but not at the risk of other problems with me been at the risk age and blood pressure, so we both compromised and he cut the statin dose by 75% and to see how I go .
Will now wait and see how it goes.
