I will join the pump club next week!

I am feeling so excited but nervous too. I am getting my pump on Wednesday and have just spent all evening writing a list of questions to ask at the appointment.

I've not had a great start as my GP surgery lost the letter from my clinic informing them to change my insulin prescription. And now I just noticed that all my pens and needles have disappeared from my repeat prescription. I think I will get the clinic to write a letter, as I think I may lose my temper if I deal with them myself. Not that I could anyway as it's virtually impossible to get even a telephone appointment these days. What do they think I would do if the pump failed?

Anyway, will try not to let it put a downer on things.
If anyone has any tips or words of advice for the early days with a pump I would be grateful. I have been trawling all the posts on the pump forum to prepare myself.

I just wanted to share my excitement really, I don't think my husband gets it!

Yay! I changed over a few months ago to a pump and have to say it is life changing! Love my pump and the improvements it's made for me.
My advice would be to write down any questions; but you are way ahead of me on that one. Good idea too on asking the clinic to write a letter for the GP. Hope you get your prescriptions all sorted out.

Yr GP will probably do a prescription for 1 bolus and basal cartridge to save on cost. Insulin can also be withdrawn from a vial using a 0.3ml disposable syringe. These come in boxes or just packs.

Thanks everyone. I didn't think of a syringe to use with the vials. It's a good idea, we don't have much storage space so whatever I can cut down on is good for me. I will ask about it.

I am sure I will be on here if things get difficult once I have my pump. No doubt they will, but I'm up for the challenge.

Hi, I collected my pump last Wednesday and started with insulin in it yesterday!

I've had issues with my prescription too. They left the Novorapid vials on, but removed the levemir and the needles lol my DSN wrote another prescription change request yesterday for me to take in to get it sorted

Haha I can only assume it was modelled on a dinosaur bone it's disappeared though, most likely buried with my roses!

Hope it goes well for you. It can be hard work, but then again so is doing all the injections! Once you've worked out what roughly the right settings are for you it should get easier
 
Hi all.

To answer some of questions I have now done my first week with my Medtronic paradigm veo minimed and I love it.

I find it simple to use and have had no major issues changing my infusion sets.

My specialist was that pleased with my progress in the first week I have just had a sensor fitted for a week so that we can find tune my ratios.

Whilst my levels are not perfect they are definitely coming down.

Not have to inject 4 times a day is brilliant.

I know I am one of the lucky ones being able to have a pump and I feel privileged to have been given the opportunity.

Good luck to anyone is starting on a pump and those trying to get one.

Wish I'd had a sensor for the first week! Struggling with basals atm because I'm never in range to start a basal test lol it'll all work out in the end though!
