Hi,

I've had IBS my whole life. For the last few years it's been quite stable - rarely any episodes that leave me housebound. But moving onto a relatively low carb diet, way from my old bad ways of eating has caused me no end of problems. I am getting sudden urges to 'go', accompanied by stomach pain and have to leg it to the closets toilet. After about an hour this is over, but it's getting me down.

I"m doing a food diary and right now can't see a pattern. I do wonder if it's just that I'm eating more veg than I've done before, to fill me up, instead of lots of cake and chocolate! I've got an appointment with a dietician in the middle of June, but need to try and get this sorted a bit before that otherwise I might start on a slippery slope of not getting out the house for fear of accidents.

I've tried to be positive but today is really hard.

Does anyone have any ideas? My carbs are around 100g a day now.

It might be down to the fact that if you are eating much more veg...you might have lack of right kind of good bacteria to deal with it all and something has to give. Cake and chocolate don't really encourage those good bacteria to flourish in your gut.
So it might take some time for those 'little fellows' to multiply..but I would say veg is much better diet for you than what the previous one sounds.
Maybe taking some 'good bacteria' supplements would help while your systems is repairing itself for its full glory ;)

Ah, that comment about bacteria supplements hit a chord. I had a quick skirt back through my memory to the last bad times, had a chat with Hubbie and remembered that eating an Activia yoghurt a day really turned my life around. Now I know they're not low carb but I've decided to try them just to see if they help me adjust. I'm testing bloods so have an idea of what's working and not. Any other suggestions though from the very experience members would be really welcome!
