Ideas for BG Testing Regime

Hello all,

I've been testing now for about 2 months now (thats gone quick!). I am allowed 3-4 strips pre day on my prescription although hopefully will challenge that now I'm on Insulin as that was from when they had no idea what was going on and wanted to keep close monitor as my levels were all over the shop.

Currently I test before each meal to work out where I am and with what I'm eating what dose to give and before bed to make sure no hypo risk. I'm doing pretty well I think with no hypos so far and only a couple of readings over 8. Type 1's might know I've struggled with impacting morning reading but rest really good.

Anyone any advice (1's or 2's or any flavour inbetween) on best times to test as I see a lot of you take readings 2 hours after food and wondering if I should skip one of my other tests to check that? Could I be missing huge spikes if my readings 4 hours later are OK?

Thanks

TTP - if your before meal tests are all very similar on a day to day basis and you are confident about them, you could try doing some post meal checks to see what's going on.

Can't answer as I don't use insulin. BUT, i would be going back to the doc and saying "hey, I want more strips!" Do you drive? That could use half your strips alone as I understand it.

Grazer,

Yeah I do and that is the issue thats sending me back to the GP's. Its not too bad as I'm up and out quick so morning test gets me to work but means I test before I leave work and then haven't got enough to check before dinner. Its only usually about 90 mins later but still a pain.

Repeat prescription runs out soon anyway so will sort then.
