Hi everybody, I was just wondering, if you could only test once a day when would it be? first thing, before meals, after meals or before bed. I only got to thinking about this because I`m sitting here having just done a test on rising and realising that I`m running a bit low on strips so will probably have to ration them. Think I will probably stick to mornings as I know pretty well by now what my usual foods do to me.

I would check first thing in yhw morning as then can can manage my BG levels throughput the day.

testing first thing is a no-no for me as its my highest reading of the day and just annoys me even though it drops from then till till dinner time

I wouldn't have a set time and use my test if I felt like I maybe on the verge of a hypo.

My endo used to tell me to test first thing in the morning when you get up as it is gives a good indication how your sugar control is going. But in all honesty in my opinion I think diabetics should be testing throughout each day to get an idea what your average sugar level is and also to see if you can identify a pattern or not... plus a few other things. I test at least 4 times a day these days, sometimes up to 12 times if I'm having a bad day. But if you're limited to 1 test a day, maybe alternate days with morning and night tests which hopefully will give you an idea how you're going. I'm not sure how your system works there in UK for getting diabetic supplies.... but I'm guessing you're saying you're unable to get more test strips?
