If you disconnect, can you use a hot tub?!

I have never used a hot tub but I do have an idea of what is involved.
I guess it would be ok if you disconnect and put the cap over the cannula. Or take the cannula out and put a new one in afterwards!

I would check blood sugar before you get in and keep lucozade (or some other hypo remedy) handy just in case.

It's possible that the heat may crystalise any insulin present and then cause blockages when you reconnect. Might be better to take the cannula out and put another in after.

Be really careful re having a hypo due to the heat causing blood vessels to dilate and insulin working too fast. I think there may be a warning notice put up in the hot tub place about this..

Thanks everyone and for the link. My son has used hot tubs for over 2 years while on MDI and it did reduce his BG so he always had a snack before and we only let him in for max 5-10 mins. But never had a problem. I just wondered if the cannula would be okay now he's on the pump. x

Hello. We have a hot tub and use it at least on a weekly basis. I only stay in it for a maximum of one hour however. Haven't had any negative effects so far. Hope this helps
