Hi all. I’m due to have my blood taken on Thursday for a hba1c test however over the weekend I seem to have picked up a bit of a cold, Its not debilitating but I’ve got a sniffle today and have felt a little tired. Is it still wise to have a hba1c test if you are a bit under the weather? I don’t know if it would affect the blood test results somewhat so is best to wait until I am fully better? Thanks.
Hi, While a short illness will raise your finger-prick BG tests, it will hardly make any difference in an HbA1C test since that is effectively a measure of how much your Blood Glucose glycated your read blood cells during their 'lives'. The average red blood cell will be around 2 month old at any time.
So yes having a cold may make a small difference, but unless it is very easy to reschedule I would go ahead.
