I'm back from my first meeting with the Diabetic Nurse

Good on you for getting out there and going to some classes. I've bought a treadmill for myself. I have a numb sensation up the sides of my legs, I hope the exercise might help that like your toe.

You are on insulin so I am sure you can handle 12.6 grams of carbs. For people on no meds at all, trying to cope on diet only it is something else entirely, for us12.6 grams of carbs in singel go can mean disaster.

It didn't affect me if you look at my BG I posted above after dinner. Tbh I don't think I am diabetic with the readings I am getting.

I am tending to agree with you Marie, but wait for your HbA1c test and carry on sorting out a suitable diabetic diet for now, just in case.

@Totto yes I am on insulin and yes I can handle carbs easier than a diet controlled diabetic I won't dispute that however in this case the op had hardly eaten anything and was starving themselves so in this case 12.6g of carbs wasn't going to do a lot of harm. I never said anything about doing it all the time. If you do a rough estimate of the carb count for that day I would put money on it that it is around about 30g of carbs.

Type 2 diagnosed 24/01/2013.
NovoRapid, Lantus, Victoza, Metformin (sr), Simvistatin

I will. I think because my liver i badly damaged that is what caused all those symptoms I had. I read it up and neuropathy is also related to liver problems. Maybe that could have cause the high BG reading the first time because I was feeling so ill. I'm gonna keep testing then when I have my appointment with the diabetic nurse I'm gonna raise my thoughts that I don't believe I am diabetic. She will have had my latest blood test results by then as well.

If she agrees and I go back to eating carbs and not cutting out sugar I will still use my monitor and test myself for a week just to be safe and if it remains at normal levels I think we can all agree that it's not diabetes.

I don't know why that first test came out at 13.7 but maybe the liver affects something, I don't know.

My liver enzymes are in their 400's when for a normal person they should be in their 30's. And liver disease has a lot of the same symptoms of diabetes.

Just read that an it seems when the liver is malfunctioning it can cause high blood sugar! I really believe it's all the liver and I am not diabetic. I honestly do.

Marieukxx,
If you haven't already read it, make sure you take a look at this.http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/thr...in-general-practice.53261/page-16#post-559500 . Read specifically #313
It could be that low carb is actually giving you more benefits than just reducing blood sugar.

4.9 this morning, it's in the good range but they've been increasing each morning. Is that normal? 3.7 then 4.6 now 4.9

It looks like I meant anti LC when I was answering Marie saying she was going to eat more carbs

@Bluetit1802 is the B12 deficiency test the HbA1c test? I'm not sure if I've had the HbA1c test or not. That would be better to see what my levels were over the last 2 to 3 months. I know they did test for B12 deficiency though. I'm gonna ask the nurse when I go back to give be the HbA1c test if I haven't had it.

Hi Marie, no, they are not the same tests, although they may well both have been done at the same time. Definitely ask for a print out of the test results. You are entitled to these and will then have all the information the doctor has, and will know just which tests you had. These are so useful and in my opinion important to keep for reference. If you are diabetic you will have HbA1c tests every 3 months to begin with, then every 6 or 12 months. You can then compare them all. Your doctor's receptionist can print them out for you if you ring and ask her. If you haven't had an HbA1c then good plan to ask for one.
