Wahoo!

After 4 years of begging, pleading and fulfilling every order from my consultant (which includes over a year of daily BM, insulin and food entries) I have been granted a pump!

I don't know the exact model, but it's by Animas. They rang me today to let me know it's in the post and should arrive tomorrow.
Got my pump 'induction' on the 12th July where I have it fitted and my rates worked out.

I'm quite chilled about the whole thing - I've seen enough Baxter infusion pumps from when I've been ill - it's essentially the same, just a wee bit smaller  My only worry is the increased risk of DKA, but I'm so on top of everything now I have no reason to stress.

Bit of a pointless post, just to poke my head round the door and say hi before I spam this part of the board xxx

Welcome to the crew!

The only reason your at an increased risk of DKA is because your are only using fast acting insulin so if your pump is supsended from delivery for some reason you run the risk of 'running out' or insulin and because you have no background insulin you can start to climb quite quickly.

Aslong as you are testing frequently and are checking your pump daily then it's still very unlikely it will happen. I've not had a glitch of ketones since i've been on the pump.

Not a pointless post at all, preparing us for the possibility of floods of posts as all sorts or wonderings and questions may pop into your mind as you think more about the pump and that day gets closer!

I've briefly looked at some animas pumps in the past, but that was a while ago so i'm not sure what models are on offer, but there are many different people here who use a wide range so i'm sure someone can offer advice if something you want to know is specific to your pump.

Hope all goes well, keep us posted and good luck for when the day arrives!

Well done...and keep us posted.....

Bit of a late reply, but well done and congratulations on your victory  How does the new pump look? Is it all cool and shiny? Bet you can't wait for your induction.

Had mine 4 months now and I wouldn't give it back for the world, it's the best thing ever! Even when my rates hadn't been worked out properly, the difference in my BG was like night and day it's amazing!

I will have my first post-pump HBa1C done soon, I can't wait to find out what it's like now!

I'm sure you will love your new pump, and we're right here to answer any of your questions

Just to keep this updated, I was officially attached on Tuesday!

It's been an eye opener on how complex yet amazingly easy these things are! I'm in love. Levels still up and down but we are trying to configure my basal rate so it's to be expected.

Did my first cannula change today, which was as simple as peas, then took my first shower. Been told by the Pump Specialist not to suspend my pump when showering, but just to disconnect it and keep it running. I did all this and clipped it back on with no problems. Full of first times for things which seem dead scary but after doing it I wonder what all the fuss is about

Can't wait to see what benefits it will bring! xxx

(Pump I am using is an Animas 2012. Love it )

Hi,

Good to hear its going well so far!

You seem confident in it all so looks like youll do great! The theory behind the pump is simple so its easy in that sense, its just tweaking things to suit you thats the tricky bit.

I also just disconnect for showers, i only suspend when changing sets or cartridges really.

Keep us posted with how your doing.
