Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone else on this forum...
Had any experience of immigration with Type 1 diabetes?
Where did you choose to immigrate to?
Did you enjoy your time there?
How long did you stay or are you still there?
How did you get on with getting your diabetes supplies while there?
How was it compared to the UK?

For some time now I have been thinking about immigrating to Japan with my partner and perhaps spend a year or more out there. It does sound like the Japanese have a system similar to America when it comes to getting medical supplies, but I need to look even more into this. I've only been on the NHS so I'm a bit unsure of how I'm going to get on if or when I get over there.

Thanks in advance for any replies (or advice!). :)

Thanks for the heads up about the Japan Diabetes Society - hopefully it'll give me some more clues! :)

Just for an update for anyone else looking into doing a trip to Japan like me - it does really look like that the best option for someone with this condition without a degree is to go out there for 3 months and share accommodation with someone who can possibly work (such as my partner!). I could play housewife lol.

All this researching is proving to be very interesting stuff - though I really need to go see the Japanese Embassy now for more further clarification! ^_^

After some discussions on expat specialising websites, I'm trying to also run on the information found on the NHS site (considering it's looking more and more unlikely that I can immigrate for life at this time): Can my GP prescribe extra medication to cover my holiday?

Hopefully it will all work out well! w00t! ^0^
