in agony with painful muscles?

hi all,
don't mean to be a drama queen but i am in agony with my muscles. it sounds silly but i can barely walk as my legs are so painful. my arms and wrists too. even my tummy if i cough.
have any of you guys experienced this? is it connected to diabetes? (type 1)
not sure what to do

Have you checked your blood glucose level. The only times I get muscle aches such as this, related to diabetes, is when my sugars levels are high.
If not raised the only other thing I can think of is a virus of some form?
Do you feel unwell in any other way?

Others may have some better thoughts but as above the only time I've experienced this with diabetes is with raised glucose levels

hi anna,
bg is at 7.9 tested a few mins ago before levemire. (good for me, newly diagnosed and started carb counting regime today with my dietician!)
i think im burning up too. i feel as though its a high temperature.

Hi @emmabai1ey11

If you think you're burning up its likely viral.
Some viruses can cause blood glucose levels to go a tad uncontrolled. Just keep a close eye on your glucose levels and drink plenty of clear fluids.

Hi @emmabai1ey11 full body aches & a temperature sounds like a virus/flu type thing, not like anything caused by diabetes. But a virus/flu type thing could impact on your blood sugars. Are you currently in pretty close contact with your DSN if you are recently diagnosed? If so, might be worth letting your nurse know tomorrow that you have the lurgi & she can teach you about sick day rules - nothing to worry about as it sounds like your blood sugar is being very well behaved at the moment (& @Annie86 's advice to test frequently and keep hydrated covers the basics).

My thoughts of statins too, but I didn't get the burning-up feeling; just agony in my muscles as they were destroyed. Coming off statins altogether was the best thing
 
agree with @Annie86 and @catapillar -- just keep checking bloods and drinking plenty of water, and call your DSN in the morning


edited to add -- to the people posting about statins -- this is a young lady that was diagnosed with type 1 a week ago .

Is that common for high bg to cause muscle pain? I had never heard of it but it makes sense. I am currently struggling with BG because I have acquired some sort of infection/virus with cold symptoms which developed into an ear abcess. I'm currently taking high dose antibiotics but I am just short of being in agony with muscle pain. I have had patella maltracking problems but now my rotar cuffs and lower arms (tennis elbow) are all hurting to.

I have a pump and freestyle libre so am doing the battle to keep in range but it is a battle.

I know high bg would cause dehydration and that would lead to muscle joint pain but does it happen without dehydration.

Any tips or does this just resolve as the infection and high bgs do? thx
 
High BG did for me, even though I'm type 2.
(People on here do tend to jump on the 'it must be the statins', so take that with a pinch of salt. (some love that too)

The effect seems to be accumulative, that is, if your average is high for a while, the pain will go when you get your average numbers down. Mine did.
 
I can't weight lift much now tho till I get sore all over I noticed my joints hurt a lot in my fingers and elbows too
 
Hi @emmabai1ey11 go and see your GP and get a proper diagnosis, your muscle pain you have been describing sounds extreme and so painful. But please get it checked out asap and hopefully you will start to feel better with, if any, treatment and rest. Keep testing and drink plenty of fluids.
