Hello, I'm Smallfry and glad I have finally found you. I was diagnosed with diabetes (NOV 11) type 2, high blood pressure and cholestoral. My doctors have never told me levels and I keep forgetting to ask, I am going to next time. I had a blood test 3 days ago and surgery rang me today and told me to take 2 of my simvastatin which takes me to 40mg.
I am finding diet difficult and have an appointment with dietician soon but I am afraid I will not know which questions to ask when I get there and forget something. I am quite down as I always thought that I would be a lot older before all this hit me if at all. My doctor thinks I must have a strong family history as I only know a few family and they all have the same, but no diabetes.
I have tried to find recipes to cook for the family and this is the difficult thing, as I just can't seem to find much. I have a husband, son 20, son 17, and daughter 8. We eat together when possible but this isn't always the case, so I need ideas for dishes that can be reheated, as I don't have time or not always at home to cook more than one meal. We do have casseroles and stews but I can't eat them then because of the salt content. Please can anybody help to point me in the right direction. I have looked on several sites but its a mine field, I find dishes that have low sugar compensate with fat, and vise versa

If you are making the stews cant you leave the salt out? Mind you I put salt in my food. You can make the same stuff for your family just leave out potatoes and make more greens, serve their potatoes on the side.
Ive low carbed before when I ate meat, must say it was easier. However all the meat eating made me give it up and become a veggie.
Good sausages chicken etc can all be served with greens only and heres the nice bit you can add butter to your veg.
If its recipes you you want you will find loads on the internet without buying cook books.
Just cut out all the white stuff, rice, pasta bread in fact processed stuff is dire, buy from the outside of the shop and avoid the middle (junk food is usually there).

Thank you Dawn, since posting I have found my way round the site abit, thanks for the advice especially shopping from the outside. :D
