Saw endocrinologist today and she had good news for me: A1C of 5.3 !!
First time I have been in the 5% club since I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2010.
Before a year ago, for like 5 years, my A1C was 8 to 10. I didn't expect to live another 10 years.
Switched to low carb, lost 75 lb / 34 kg / 5.4 stone (so far), lipids improved dramatically (from high risk to normal/ideal), neuropathy mostly reversed and now in 5% club
Thanks low carb diet
Now I look forward to living to 100
Btw I inject 24 units of basal insulin per day, and losing 4 pounds per week.. so don't be afraid of insulin if you need it -- my pancreas just doesn't make enough to even cover very low carb diet or even fasting. My blood sugar with basal insulin, low carb diet & walking is 80-100 mg/dl all day. Without insulin best I could do on low carb diet with intermittent fasting was 110-140 mg/dl (6.1-7.8 mmol/L).
My next goal is A1C of 4.9
. [besides losing more weight]
