Newbie 2 LADA
Member
Hi folks,
I'm fairly new to this and still learning.....
Was diagnosed Type 2 2 years ago (Wish I'd found this forum earlier) and managed it well through diet and exercise (and metformin) however BS continued to rise so have now been diagnosed as LADA and started on basal insulin 10 days ago.
(NOTE to any new Type 2's - Please ensure you monitor your BS levels. my doc told me there was no need to monitor BS levels so I didn't and that is a great regret of mine as I would have noticed the problems earlier and would also know now what spikes me etc. instead of having to start at the beginning all over again. Goodness knows what damage I've done in the meantime...but that's another story)
I'm now trying to get my BS under control .......
I started on 8 units of insulin at night and BS did come down to around the 8.8 - 10 mark in the mornings for the 1st week. My DN is on holiday but said to me that if after a week it hadn't gone down to the 5-8 region then I should 'up' my basal dose.
I did that 2 nights ago and now am taking 10 units at night. Both mornings since doing that my morning levels have been 11.9 and 11.6.
My diet is exactly the same - (I keep a food diary and yesterday replicated my 'best day' and have been on LCHF for last 2 years) and I walk for an hour every day as well as do yoga 3 times a week.
I just wondered if anyone else has had the same issue with basal going up but BS going up too?
I'm just considering if I should I increase my basal dose even more or give it a few more days to settle before upping the dose again?
Many thanks in advance for any wisdom anyone on here can impart
