Increased muscle / hip pain - trochantric bursitis??

Thanks for posting those links @Molly56 I think this is what I have and couldn't find out what it was. I can point exactly to where the pain is on the side of my body, it sometimes affects my knee too. It is made worse by pulling trolley suitcases and sitting on trains. I have a cushion for my work chair and in my car.

Molly - I suggest you clarify, right up front, with the Pain Clinic, what their purpose is. I have a feeling their function will be to manage long-term, chronic pain, with the source(s) of the pain being dealt with elsewhere; otherwise, when you consider what sorts of people are referred there (joint pain, migraine, neuropathy etc.), they would have to be experts in almost any discipline you care to consider. I hope I might be wrong, but, it's important to understand what your expectations from the start.

@AndBreathe @alliebee ...thanks for your comments...think we probably came away with the best outcome for now...
Have posted details on another thread but basically the Amitriptyline was changed to Duloxetine (this is what I expected as was the reason the GP had written to the pain clinic for advice)...was also prescribed Capsaicin cream for application to affected areas
...was also seen by physiotherapist and given advice on strengthening exercises...bit doubtful if he will do this though..:(

Was pleased that I had given some thought and preparation before the appointment as had heard from some people such as @connie104 of experiences where much stronger painkillers were prescribed and bad experiences with side effects.....am a little apprehensive about the Duloxetine having read mixed reviews but hope it will help with not too many side effects...

@))Denise(( ...am pleased this may be of help...as I said I am cautious of self diagnosis as I know there are many dangers with this but sometimes you just look at something and everything just seems to fall into place and explains what is going on....at least it will give you something to work on and ask a healthcare professional for further advice.
Am not sure at the moment if this is actually the problem for my partner but perhaps more information will come to light when he sees the hip consultant later this month....the Capsaicin cream he was prescribed yesterday seems to have relieved some of the pain after first application so fingers crossed that this will help, at least in the short term..
