hello everyone,

So my recent hba1c was 55. Over the last 4 years of being monitored and 2 pregnancies, it was confirmed in m diabetic. I have been very depressed and terrible anxiety around it all.

So I saw the nurse Friday, she gave me a folder full of leaflets to read, and has put me forward for a course which I’m awaiting a letter I suppose. She suggested doing low carb, which is something I’ve researched a lot of the last few years, as I’ve been given such conflicting information from various doctors and dieticians etc, some said low fat some said full fat etc.

So I going down the low carb route, and I’m to go back in 8 weeks to see how my sugars have gone. Anyway Thursday evening we are out for a birthday meal in a Indian restaurant, can anyway help me with dishes I can eat which will be filling. I know something like shashlik or tandoori , but what about vegetable curries, or side dishes?

Thank you

Just get non starchy veg curries like aubergine, cauliflower or spinach and avoid the root veg ones.
Lot of nice tandoori meats should be fine. I usually go for the mixed grill or chicken tikka.

Sag paneer (spinach with fresh 'Indian style' cheese),

One more vote for saag paneer and tandoori meats, they are really delicious AND never have spiked my blood sugars. Make sure it's something non-root veg based and ask about the sauces if there are sugar in them. Butter chicken and other cream based dishes shouldn't be all that bad.
