if diabetes is not controlled well is that person more vulnerable to colds/flu/infections?

it can mean that and also if you get illnesses it can be harder to get over them,
sadly uncontrolled diabetes causes many problems :?

Would not say you are more vulnerable to them, but they can affect your control. Infections as in cuts etc. can take longer to heal.

The immune system is definitely weaker if blood sugars are high. This is because immunoglobulins are proteins and when these are glycated their function is reduced. Whether or not you get more frequent colds I couldn't say.
