Hi

I hope someone can help me.

I am not diabetic but my Husband is.. Type 1 and has been since he was 6. He is now 32. We have just decided to start trying for a baby and like the control freak I am I started researching on the internet (big mistake I know :roll: ). I have read many articles about men with Type 1 diabetes being infertile. From what I can tell he doesn't have retrograde ejaculation, there are impotence issues but these are being treated with the little blue pill . What are the chances because he has been diabetic for so long that he could be infertile? Has anyone had similar issues? Please give me some good news as I am so worried we may not be able to have children

I hate to see posts unanswered so here goes, i'm no expert or am i diabetic, though i do have a T1 11yr old son, and this is a question i often think about, will he make me a Grandma!! On a serious note all i can suggest is that he goes to his Dr and arranges to have a sperm count done, that way with the results you will know exactly where you are on the making babies issue.

Providing he has been a well controlled Diabetic there shouldn't really be any issues, however as he is already suffering with RD then it might pay you to get advice from your GP and maybe tests carried out to check Fertility.

ED is not for life in most cases and can be treated successfully, I know, from 12 years ago.....very successfully !
 
Hi, I was diagnosed type1 at age 15 and in my mid twenties fathered two strapping sons one of who has now made me a very proud grandfather. At the time, unlike now, I really didn't pay too much attention to my diabetes control without, it seems, any adverse effect in the department you mention. After 30 odd years I did have problems with the old pencil lead that no amount of tablets seemed to help. However, caverject (injections) is most definately the answer for me. Hope this has been of help.
 
Thank you so much for your advice everyone. That has been a great help! My husband now has an appointment with the Diabetic nurse in a couple of weeks so hopefully she will recommend a test. Fingers crossed everything will be OK and watch this space.
